Kingston Slams Passage of ‘Sanctuary State’ Amendment
For Immediate Release:
Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Kingston criticized a budget amendment passed by the Massachusetts State Senate late Wednesday that would restrict cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration enforcement. Kingston further called on members of the State House and the Governor to reject the amendment in any final budget resolution.
“Respect for the rule of law is one of the core principles of our democracy,” Kingston said. “This legislation undercuts that core tenet of what makes America exceptional by allowing local politicians to pick and choose what laws will be enforced in Massachusetts.”
“I strongly oppose sanctuary city policies that prevent federal immigration officials from doing their job to enforce the law and protect our communities from illegal immigrants who have committed additional crimes,” Kingston continued. “That is why I encourage legislators in the State House and the Governor to immediately make clear this misguided amendment will not be part of the state’s final budget for fiscal year 2019.”
